ArchivalResource

Archivio della Nunziatura Apostolica in Uruguay, 1900-1960.

The records series begins in 1900, although formal diplomatic relations did not begin until 1939. The early records of the apostolic delegates, who primarily resided in Buenos Aires, document anticlericism and religious presecution as well as a close monitoring of the political situation within the country. The records do not have any major gaps. Additional records regarding Uruguay can be located in the archives of other South American nunciatures, particularly Argentina and Brazil, and the Secretariatus Status series Esteri.
